[sumo] [Spoiler] Rikishi Talk Day 9 Kyushu Basho 2004

Rikishi Talk Day 9 Kyushu Basho
---------------------------------------

Kisenosato (vs Roho) - losing by Shitatenage ----------------------------------------------------
"I didn't have a strong finish, I didn't go hard enough. I will start all over again tomorrow doing my best."

Roho (vs Kisenosato ) by Shitatenage
--------------------------------------------
(On the earliest day to get kachikoshi in six bashos since becoming a sekitori.)
"I knew I had Kachikoshi on the line today. As I was going against another young power, I was tryng not to get overwhelmed and was trying to get myself psyched up. I am really happy to get kachikoshi. Now I can compete more relaxed." (Enduring Kisenosato's yori without resorting to his old wrestling pulling habit told not to use by Taiho oyakata).
"I go to see him every night. Initially he used to tell me, I've done well or did a good job. But lately he has been saying I am not there yet. But what the oyakata is telling me is correct and I know it's a right way to go."

Hayateumi (vs Takekaze) by Oshitaoshi
-----------------------------------------------
(His favorite technique, "Hassou Tobi", read and got pushed while in flight for one sided loss.)
"This was the first time I have been read so completely by someone. It was a rather embarrassing."

Wakanosato (vs Tamanoshima) by Yorikiri
--------------------------------------------------
(On the bout today)
"I tried to prepare myself against his last minute sudden moves. I think I am focusing well and competing with a good amount of tension."
(Getting his kachikoshi on Day 9, the earliest since the 2001 Nagoya)
"I am relieved but now comes a much more important task ahead. My next goal

is to get 10 wins. I'd like to achieve it as quickly as possible. "

Asashoryu (vs Kyokushuzan) by Oshidashi
-------------------------------------------------
(Keeping himself steady even when he got a harite slap from Kyokushuzan.)
"I guess he was thinking of some opening to get a win. You've got to go calmly, you know." (Asked if he started feeling tired.)
"Not much. I am eating delicious food every day with a bit of drink and I am sleeping very well, thank you."
(About last night.)
"Oh..I had Shabu Shabu with three glasses of Imo(potato) Shochu (liquor). I guess one can get to have an expensive taste, you know."

Kotooshu (vs Tokitenku) by Watashikomi
-----------------------------------------------
(Now with 7 straight wins after two losses at the start.)
"I've been training with Tokitenku since we've just started out. If I move into him, he will start hooking with his leg and I might end up getting injured so I just stayed back and waited for a chance."

Chiyotaikai (vs Shimotori) by Oshidashi
----------------------------------------------
"I am finally starting to compete well. If I can get myself moving better, then I know I am on the way. When I was on the losing streak, I was suffering from injuries. I can't remember whom I lost to." "Here I am just about in my home territory (from Oita Prefecture in Kyushu) but I don't even get a single Kensho. I can't believe this. I am in debt every day."

Miyabiyama (vs Tosanoumi) by Oshidashi
-----------------------------------------------
(Getting his sixth win)
"Yesterday I didn't even touch my opponent (because of a tachiai henka). I am tired now but I didn't move back today so I am doing well."
(On Kaiou)
"There is something different about him this basho. He seems to be more relaxed. Usually he is all coiled up in the Kyushu."

Kaiou (vs Kotonowaka) by Oshidashi
-------------------------------------------
"There is no point in trying to get the mawashi every time, you know. There is no need because I am moving well and I can just charge ahead. Anyway you know about what's transpired previously, my history. But I am not getting into counting the wins (the Rijicho indicated he'd need 13 wins for the promotion). I just have to go till the very end doing my best."

Kotonowaka (vs Kaiou) losing by Oshidashi
---------------------------------------------------
"He is so powerful. And he is not pulling anymore."

Kyokutenho (vs Hakuho) losing by Uwatedashinage
----------------------------------------------------------
(On Hakuho's calm demeanor)
"I felt he has been competing longer than me..."

Hakuho (vs Kyokutenho) by Uwatedashinage
-----------------------------------------------------
(Getting four consecutive kachikoshi bashos since his Makuuchi debut.)
"I didn't expect to get kachikoshi this early. I guess perhaps I haven't faced too many upper ranked rikishis yet. My next goal is to win 10."
(A Sanyaku ranking on the horizon - to be the third youngest Komusubi after Takahanada - 18 years 10 months at the 1991 Nagoya and Kitanoumi - 19 years 7 months at the 1973 Hatsu. And now facing Kaiou on Day 10.)
"Now I feel I can go against him free and easy."

Kokonoe Oyakata
---------------------
(On Hakuho)
"He displays a large-scale sumo. I am sure he will get bigger still so you will have no idea how strong he could become."

Takamisakari (vs Hokutoriki) losing by Oshidashi
---------------------------------------------------------
(His inning streak ending at five.)
"I couldn't get going with my sumo at all today. I just feel miserable."
(Asked if he is feeling a colder climate moving in.)
"Rikishis are hot...Always competing with passion."
