[sumo] {spoiler]KaioU preparations
Kaiou's tsunatori preparations are in full swing. He has been making
waves at the current Shizuoka jungyo. He did some massive keiko with
Tochinonada, Miyabiyama, Hakuhou and others, and was throwing them
around like there is no tomorrow. "Wow!! I was really surprised!! I've
never seen KaioU-zeki train this hard so early before a basho. The
coming basho will really be interesting..", said an awed Asashouryuu.
Usually, most Sekitoris don't start real serious keiko a month before a
basho. Till now, KaioU belonged to this "group". "In the past, when I
was going for the tsuna, I used to get my training pace all wrong
because of people around me. My injuries never had a real chance of
healing. I've learned my lesson. Now I just prepare at my own pace,
while looking after and listening to my body," said KaioU. "I'm 32- too
old to make my body 'larger'. I have to maintain it the best I can."
For 30 minutes/an hour after each session, he gets a massage from his
trainer. "He used to come to me to fix his bandages and stuff in the
past. Now her has succeeded in coming to grips with his various injuries
and taking care of them. His body is in its best shape!!", attested the
trainer.
He entered Sumo in March 1988, together with three others who all made
Yokozuna-Wakanohana, Takanohana and Akebono. He seems to be a late bloomer.
"When they made Yokozuna, I thought it was really cool, but I never felt
any regret that I didn't make it. I am me (I yam what I yam..). Still,
everyone who enters this world wants to reach the top. When this wish is
gone, it's the end!", said KaioU
The only other rikishi to become Yokozuna after the age of 32 since the
advent of the 6 year basho system was Kotozakura (Sadogatake Oyakata) in
1973.
This may be KaioU's very last chance.
